US Secretary of State Antony Blinken announced on Friday that the United States will revoke the decision to designate the Yemeni “Anssarullah” group as a foreign terrorist organization, effective February 16th.
Blinken said in a statement published by the US State Department on its website on Friday, that this decision comes “in recognition of the harsh humanitarian situation” in Yemen.
He pointed out that the administration of the new US President Joe Biden listened to the warnings of the United Nations, relief organizations and members of Congress regarding the impact of the decision to designate Anssarullah on the supply of basic commodities such as food and fuel to Yemen.
It is reported that Blinken considered earlier that removing Anssarullah from the terrorism list was a priority at a time when President Joe Biden launched a diplomatic movement in an effort to end the war.
