Detention of Yemeni Travelers at Cairo Airport: Condemnation and Anger by Yemeni Activists
Cairo – Al-Masa-Press:
Upon their arrival via Yemeni Airways at Cairo International Airport, a group of Yemeni travelers were held by Egyptian authorities.
19 Yemeni citizens were unlawfully held at the airport without a recognized reason, and authorities are still trying to deport them to Yemen despite the fact that they urgently need medical treatment. Some of the detainees do have chronic ailments that require immediate treatment, according to media sources.
This detention occurs in the midst of a string of harsh actions taken by Egyptian authorities against Yemeni travelers, as hundreds of Yemeni patients seeking treatment in Egypt have been denied entry into the country after imposing impossible and costly conditions for obtaining medical permits, with a suspicious silence from the alliance government regarding these arbitrary measures against Yemeni expatriates.
The Ma’een government’s silence as well as these measures have stoked significant indignation and displeasure among Yemeni activists. They have demanded a revision of these regulations as well as the guarantee of Yemeni travelers’ rights to access necessary medical care in Egypt.
