The Guardian: A year and Gaza’s nightmare continues, and there is no end near
The Guardian newspaper published an editorial about Israel and Gaza in which it said that the war is a nightmare without end.
Health authorities in Gaza estimate the death toll so far at more than 41,118 and 95,125 injured, many of them life-changing injuries.
The pace of killing may have slowed, but the death and suffering are no less terrifying, she said, recalling Wednesday’s Israeli raid that killed six UN aid workers, who were among 18 people killed after bombing a school in Nuseirat in central Gaza, where thousands of displaced people had taken refuge. A day earlier, 19 Palestinians were killed in a supposed “safe axis” area of Khan Younis.
UN Secretary-General António Guterres said: “What is happening in Gaza is absolutely unacceptable.” After the attack on an UNRWA school, he wrote: “These tragic violations of international humanitarian law must stop. Now,” Netanyahu did not respond to Guterres’ demands, ignoring them.
The death toll is mounting in Gaza, where aid groups say the flow of humanitarian support remains insufficient and that a million people, half the population, will not be able to get enough food this month, even as trucks loaded with aid wait at Israeli checkpoints.
Traumatized survivors are struggling to access basic supplies, with 90% of the Strip under Israeli evacuation orders and many residents displaced more than once, with no homes to return to.
