Revealing American-Saudi disagreements over the escalation mechanism in Yemen

Western diplomatic sources revealed on Wednesday the details of American-Saudi disagreements regarding escalation in Yemen.

This comes in conjunction with American military movements in the country, which has been locked in confrontations with its forces since January.

Exclusive – Al-Khabar Al-Yemeni:

Sources reported that the US discussed with Saudi Arabia the possibility of supporting the factions loyal to the coalition in Yemen and rearranging their ranks to activate military fronts against what they described as “the Houthis.” However, Riyadh categorically rejected the American plan.

The sources clarified that Saudi Arabia downplayed the importance of the American step due to its lack of reliance on the factions loyal to it to change the reality in Yemen and its concerns that the step could lead to a return to the quagmire of confrontations again with Yemen and the failure to achieve any gain through which pressure could be put on Sana’a.

The sources indicated that Saudi Arabia proposed that America carry out larger military operations in Yemen, aiming for what they described as a bigger blow to Yemen. This is something that America fears, as American officials have expressed concerns that Yemen could turn into a quagmire draining American forces.

According to the sources, the disagreements between the two allies are not about the war on Yemen but about its nature and goals. America is trying, through escalating on the fronts, to engage Yemen in internal battles and distract it from its battle against Israeli occupation, while Saudi Arabia aspires to a strong blow that achieves what it has failed to achieve over 9 years of war and siege.

Last week, the British capital, London, hosted a trilateral meeting involving the American and Saudi ambassadors, along with the American envoy to Yemen and officials from the British Foreign Office, headed by its Under-Secretary for Middle East and North Africa Affairs.

The two-day meeting, during which Britain tried to bridge the gap in disagreements between the two parties without issuing a statement, even as the Saudi ambassador to Yemen, Mohammed Al Jaber, contented himself with messages of reassurance to Sana’a and ignored American participation in the meeting.
