Intensive airstrikes and diplomatic communications… American confusion in Yemen
Before launching a new aggression on Yemen, the US sent its special envoy to Iraq to discuss the Yemeni file. What are the dimensions of this move?
Exclusive – Al-Khabar Al-Yemeni:
American envoy to Yemen Tim Lenderking met with Iraqi Deputy Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein over the weekend during his visit to Baghdad, which was the first of its kind.
According to Iraqi media, the two parties discussed ways of joint support for stability in Yemen.
This unique meeting came hours before US forces carried out intensive airstrikes targeting various areas in western and central Yemen, reaching the Yemeni capital Sana’a.
According to a statement from the US Central Command, American aircraft conducted around 15 airstrikes on Friday evening and Saturday dawn, while Hebrew reports mentioned the participation of the “USS Virginia” nuclear submarine in the airstrikes, with media reports suggesting over 20 attacks.
The airstrikes focused on the city of Hudaydah on the western coast of Yemen and the provinces of Dhamar and Al-Bayda, in addition to the Yemeni capital Sana’a.
The airstrikes targeted economic infrastructure facilities that had previously been subjected to hundreds of airstrikes over the past years of the Saudi aggression.
So far, it is unclear whether Sana’a has rejected a new American attempt to establish communication channels, which had been sought by various regional parties. This has led the Americans to this madness as they try to convey messages for de-escalation, especially considering that the US had offered the Israeli occupation to bomb Yemen instead of Iran amid increasing fears of a wide regional war.
