A foreign website: Classifying “Ansar Allah” a terrorist organization is useless and targets all Yemenis

A report published on the American “Drop Site” website highlighted the repercussions of the Trump administration’s decision to reclassify the Ansar Allah movement as a foreign terrorist organization, warning that this step will not affect the military capabilities of the Sana’a forces but will lead to a humanitarian and economic catastrophe targeting all Yemenis.

Follow ups – Al-Khabar Al-Yemeni:

According to the report, relief organizations and experts on Yemeni affairs believe that this classification will not change Ansar Allah’s strategy or limit Sana’a’s military operations, but it will directly affect the lives of civilians, as the classification decision will impose strict restrictions on the purchase of food and fuel, which will disrupt supply chains, raising prices of basic commodities, and deepening the humanitarian crisis for about 17.1 million Yemenis suffering from food insecurity.

The report quotes former CIA analyst Bruce Riedel as saying that the decision is unrealistic and useless, explaining that “years of Saudi, American, British, and Israeli bombardment of Yemen have not succeeded in ending Ansar Allah’s military capabilities, and classifying them as a terrorist organization will not change anything.”

In contrast, Scott Paul, director of Security and Peace at Oxfam America, is quoted by the American website as saying that “the decision will lead to the cutting of life-saving financial transfers, the disruption of commercial imports of medicine and food, and a significant reduction in the humanitarian response,” which means that the decision, by its nature, aims to exacerbate the humanitarian crisis, targeting all Yemenis.

The “Drop Site” report concludes that classifying Ansar Allah as a terrorist organization will not achieve its stated objectives but will exacerbate the humanitarian tragedy in Yemen, which may lead to a new escalation in the region, amid increasing international pressure on the US to reconsider this controversial step and Sana’a’s repeated warnings.
