The Missing.. A Deep Tragedy in Gaza
With the Israeli war of extermination lasting more than 15 months, the phenomenon of missing persons has emerged in an unprecedented way in the Gaza Strip, where the government media office in Gaza has documented more than 14,000 cases of disappearance since October 7, amid major challenges hindering access to victims and saving those who remain under the rubble.
This great tragedy prompted a group of human rights defenders to announce the establishment of the first Palestinian center specialized in following up on the affairs of the missing and forcibly disappeared.
In this context, Ghazi Majdalawi, the main researcher at the center, stressed that the establishment of this human rights system came in response to the urgent need to document the missing and provide an electronic platform that enables families to enter the data of their missing or forcibly disappeared relatives, which facilitates the process of verifying cases and establishing a documented record to be used in legal and human rights procedures.
