The Israeli occupation forces intend to deploy tanks in battles in the northern occupied West Bank for the first time since Operation Defensive Shield in 2002, while continuing their raids on towns in the West Bank as part of their ongoing operations there for the 33rd consecutive day.
The Israeli Channel 14 quoted an informed security source, who was not named, as saying that the deployment of tanks in the northern West Bank aims to enhance military operations in the area, adding that the decision came “after pressure from the political leadership.”
As for the date of the actual use of these tanks, the source explained that they “may enter the northern West Bank in the near future if necessary, as part of expanding the scope of military operations,” without mentioning a specific time.
The source added that this step aims to “send a clear message of deterrence to the armed Palestinian factions,” noting that the Israeli army does not rule out using the air force again if developments require it.
