UNRWA: Gaza is experiencing a humanitarian catastrophe, with 124,000 people displaced within days
The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) said on Monday that the Gaza Strip is experiencing a humanitarian catastrophe, with 124,000 people displaced again within days, fleeing the ongoing Israeli bombardment.
The agency called for an end to the bombing and blockade imposed on the Strip, and for the rapid entry of humanitarian aid.
The agency added on its X account: “People in Gaza are facing the worst nightmare of their lives, living the most inhumane ordeal,” noting that this is happening right in front of everyone’s eyes.
UNRWA Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini warned on Sunday of a famine in the Gaza Strip, saying: “Every day that goes by without food for the people of the Gaza Strip brings the Strip closer to a severe hunger crisis.”
Lazzarini described the blocking of aid to the Strip as collective punishment against Gaza.
“It has been three weeks since the Israeli authorities prevented supplies from entering Gaza. There is no food, no medicine, no water, and no fuel,” the UNRWA Commissioner added, noting that the Strip is facing “a suffocating blockade longer than it was during the first phase of the war.”
