Euro-Mediterranean: Famine is spreading at catastrophic levels in Gaza

The Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Monitor (a Geneva-based human rights organization) documented a sharp increase in death rates among residents of the Gaza Strip, particularly children, during the longest comprehensive blockade imposed by Israel since the beginning of its genocidal crime, warning that famine is entering catastrophic stages.

The Observatory stated in a press release that Israel has continued to impose a complete blockade on land, sea, and air for 62 days, preventing the entry of humanitarian aid, medicines, and essential goods. This has led to the deaths of dozens of civilians from starvation or lack of medical care, the latest of whom was the 4-month-old infant, Jenan Saleh Al-Skafi, at Al-Rantisi Hospital in western Gaza.

The Observatory issued an urgent appeal to the international community, demanding immediate action to end the illegal blockade, which constitutes a flagrant violation of international humanitarian law and is used as a tool to starve the population in the context of a genocidal crime.

He stressed that the complete closure of the crossings since March 2 has caused food stocks to run out and prices to rise by more than 500% since October 2023, exacerbating the suffering of the most vulnerable groups, such as children, women, the sick, and the elderly.
