Details of the crime… Two Yemeni fishermen killed and another injured in a new Eritrean shelling
Hudaydah – Al-Khabar Al-Yemeni:
Two Yemeni fishermen were killed and a third was injured today after they were targeted by the Eritrean navy while practicing fishing in Yemeni territorial waters in the Red Sea, in an incident that adds to the series of violations against Yemeni fishermen.
The bodies of the two victims and the injured arrived at the fishing port in Hudaydah, where they were received by local officials and the families of the fishermen, who expressed their anger and condemnation of the crime and demanded urgent action to stop these repeated attacks.
According to the testimonies of the surviving fishermen, a “Galbah” fishing boat carrying 31 fishermen was subjected to direct gunfire from an Eritrean patrol, using a modified machine gun mounted on a military boat, which resulted in the destruction of the boat’s equipment and engines, in addition to the looting of the fishermen’s property.
The Director General of Ports and Centers at the Red Sea Fisheries Authority, Aziz Atteeni, confirmed that this attack represents a flagrant violation of Yemeni sovereignty, noting that the Eritrean forces took the fishermen into their territorial waters and detained them for hours before releasing them.
The Fisheries Authority called on the Yemeni and international authorities, including human rights organizations, to take immediate action to hold Eritrea accountable and protect Yemeni fishermen from their repeated targeting in fishing areas belonging to Yemen.
