Report | Irish newspaper: The complete closure of the “Eilat” Port is a “Clear Victory” for Sana’a

The Irish Newspaper Time described the complete shutdown of the “Eilat” port in the occupied territories, as a result of the naval blockade imposed by the Ansar Allah Houthi group in the Red Sea, as a “clear victory” for Sana’a and a rare and unprecedented defeat for the occupation.

Follow ups – Al-Khabar Al-Yemeni:

The newspaper said in a report it published that this port accounted for 5 to 7 percent of the maritime trade volume of the occupation entity and was part of the security and military infrastructure in southern occupied Palestine.

The report noted that with the escalation of the support operations for Gaza since last November, ships have started to avoid reaching the port of Eilat after Sana’a directed precise strikes against American, British, and Israeli ships, in parallel with targeting the occupied city of Eilat itself with missiles and drones.

The newspaper said that the flow of ships to the port decreased by 85% by December, and in March 2024, half of the port’s employees were laid off, and by May of this year, only six ships reached the port, leading to the practical collapse of commercial activity.

It reported that this commercial closure will have negative repercussions on the naval forces of the occupation, which use the port as a base for launching their security boats to protect their marine maintenance workshops.

The report confirmed that the offers made by the Zionist navy to protect commercial ships did not convince the ship owners, who see that passage through the Red Sea is still fraught with risks and that the “Yemeni danger” is still strongly present.

It pointed out that due to the focused Yemeni strikes, major global shipping companies had to change the routes of their ships away from the Red Sea towards the Cape of Good Hope, which led to an increase in shipping costs, longer trip times, and higher insurance premiums.
