Gaza: Pregnant women face dangers and fetuses trapped in their wombs

The impact of the famine affecting the residents of the Gaza Strip is growing, affecting all aspects of life, including those in need, even the unborn. Pregnant women are at risk, requiring healthcare and a diet they cannot find under this complete blockade, not to mention the lack of essential food and water.
The danger facing pregnant women in the Gaza Strip is not limited to their own health; it also extends to their fetuses, as they lose the factors that enable them to survive until birth. Furthermore, those who survive lack the necessary organs and vital functions, making them more susceptible to deformities and stunted growth.
The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) stated via its X platform that pregnant women in Gaza are “starving, living in constant fear, and forced to give birth in inhumane conditions.”
The Fund noted that one in three pregnancies is classified as high-risk, while one in five babies is born either prematurely or underweight, and 40% of pregnant and breastfeeding women suffer from severe malnutrition.
The Fund emphasized that this is not just a health crisis; it is a “death sentence” threatening the lives of mothers and their fetuses, given the international community’s inability to halt the humanitarian collapse in the Strip.
