Saudi ship carrying weapons to Israel
Exclusive – Al-Khabar Al-Yemeni:
An Italian newspaper revealed a bold move by workers at the port of Genoa, northern Italy, which consisted of preventing the passage of the Saudi ship “Bahri Yanbu” coming from the American port of Baltimore, which was scheduled to carry military equipment produced by the Italian arms company “Leonardo,” including an Otto Melara cannon and possibly tanks and other heavy weapons.
According to the newspaper “People’s Dispatch,” the ship was already loaded with large quantities of weapons, ammunition, and armored vehicles, and during early morning inspections, about 40 workers boarded the ship to document the cargo, challenging attempts to obstruct their access, which forced the port authority to pledge to discuss the establishment of a “permanent observatory for arms smuggling” next September.
The move came in rejection of what the workers described as “involvement in the genocide in Gaza,” based on Italian law No. 185/90, which prohibits the export of weapons to countries involved in armed conflicts.
This is not the first instance, as workers of the port previously intercepted a similar Saudi shipment in 2019, but promises to stop the loading of weapons were not implemented, allowing the cross to continue.
Simultaneously, labor unions and anti-war movements announced their participation in the protests, pledging to escalate the situation, culminating in an international assembly of dockworkers in September to coordinate efforts to prevent Genoa from becoming a “logistical hub for war.”
This movement follows an incident in late July when dockworkers in Genoa prevented the unloading of a shipment of military steel heading to Israel after it was first intercepted at a Greek port.
The Italian newspaper confirmed that the positions of European dockworkers are gaining strategic importance in disrupting military supply chains and halting “death production lines,” as it described.
