WFP warns: Half a million people in Gaza are on the brink of faminemi

The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) warned in a press release that nearly 500,000 people in Gaza are at risk of famine, while the rest of the population is living in “emergency” levels of food insecurity, in light of the ongoing Israeli blockade and ongoing aggression on the Strip.
The program confirmed that “the ongoing conflict, the collapse of basic services, and severe restrictions on the delivery and distribution of humanitarian aid have led to catastrophic humanitarian conditions across Gaza.”
The statement revealed that more than 320,000 children under the age of five in Gaza are at risk of acute malnutrition, noting that “thousands of them suffer from severe acute malnutrition, the most serious form of malnutrition and a direct threat to their lives.”
The program also noted that one in three people in Gaza goes days without food, amid a collapse in basic nutrition services, including shortages of clean water, breast-milk substitutes, and therapeutic feeding for infants.
The statement explained that “the limited amount of food delivered so far covers only a fraction of what a population of more than two million people needs to survive,” calling on the international community to “ensure the immediate and safe delivery of food and urgently work towards a ceasefire.”
