A direct Israeli attack on a civil defense facility in Gaza resulted in the deaths of 14 people
Major Mahmoud Basal, spokesperson for the Civil Defense in the Gaza Strip, confirmed that the Israeli occupation continues to directly and deliberately target those protected by international humanitarian law. He emphasized that hospitals are sacred places, no different from churches and mosques, and that targeting them reveals the lack of red lines or rules for the occupying forces.
He added, during an interview with Al Jazeera, that the Israeli occupation carried out a direct attack on a hospital, killing 14 people in a single moment. He noted that the shell was fired directly at the hospital, in full view of the world and on live television.
Basal explained that civil defense and health personnel, as well as journalists, are all protected by international humanitarian law and international agreements, noting that they should not be harmed in any way.
He pointed out that the occupation targeted doctors in operating rooms and journalists while they were in the area.
The Civil Defense spokesperson explained that rescue crews were directly targeted as soon as they arrived to begin evacuation and intervention operations, resulting in the death of one crew member, bringing the number of Civil Defense personnel killed in this manner to 138.
He added that seven others were seriously injured, three of whom are in intensive care and could die at any moment.
Basal called on the international community to assume its responsibilities, stressing the need for an immediate halt to the direct targeting of health facilities and Civil Defense personnel.
