The Gaza Municipality confirmed that the city is experiencing an unprecedented humanitarian disaster. The effects of the war of extermination waged by the occupation have affected all aspects of life, including infrastructure, service facilities, and public and private buildings. The destruction has transformed Gaza into a disaster-stricken city.
The municipality explained that hundreds of thousands of citizens continue to live in the city under extremely harsh conditions, lacking clean water, health services, food, and shelter, amid the near-total collapse of basic infrastructure. The widespread destruction has turned the city’s streets into piles of rubble, and public facilities have become disaster zones that are difficult to access or utilize.
It indicated that the destructive operations targeted roads, water wells, sewage treatment plants, water and lighting networks, communications, municipal vehicles, parks, and public and private buildings, leading to a near-total paralysis in the provision of basic services to residents, worsening health and environmental conditions, and the spread of epidemics in several areas of the city.
She added that the humanitarian disaster is worsening day by day with the ongoing aggression and the lack of resources. She noted that the municipality is making exceptional efforts to maintain a minimum level of services, despite the loss of most equipment and machinery, the depletion of fuel, and the lack of necessary support to operate vital operations.
The municipality emphasized that the continuation of the war of extermination threatens new disasters, especially with the approach of the rainy season and the lack of sufficient resources to address its effects. This portends further suffering for residents struggling for survival.
The municipality called on the international community and humanitarian and relief organizations to take urgent action to save hundreds of thousands of civilians in the city, support municipal efforts to provide the minimum basic services, and protect what remains of the necessities of life in stricken Gaza.
