Maersk: There is a clear link between escalation in Bab Al-Mandeb and the conflict in Gaza

Follow-ups – Al-Khabar Al-Yemeni:

The Danish company “Maersk” has confirmed its continued avoidance of having its ships transit through the Red Sea passages, despite reaching a ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip.

The global shipping giant said in a statement, “We will not consider resuming transport operations through the Red Sea until an effective and long-term security solution is reached, one that guarantees the safety of ships and our crew.”

It expressed hope that the ceasefire agreement would be a first step towards ending the conflict and achieving lasting peace in the region, which would positively reflect on the stability of maritime navigation.

The company stated that there is a clear link between the escalation of security risks in the Bab Al-Mandeb Strait and the ongoing conflict in Gaza, but it stressed that it is too early to determine the extent of the impact of recent political developments on the security situation in the Red Sea.
