Gaza municipalities declare the northern Gaza Strip a disaster area

The municipalities of North Gaza Governorate declared that Israel has turned the governorate into a “disaster area” due to the widespread destruction of infrastructure and the prevention of the entry of basic necessities, primarily water, fuel, spare parts, and reconstruction materials.

In a statement, the municipalities explained that “the aggression has led to the destruction of more than 150 kilometers of roads and 70 main water wells, in addition to the destruction of treatment plants and all their electricity generators, causing a major collapse in water and sanitation services.”

They also noted “the destruction of approximately 50,000 dunams of agricultural crops, which has exacerbated food insecurity in North Gaza and threatened the lives of residents.”

The municipalities of North Gaza Governorate emphasized that they are facing “serious challenges, most notably the lack of fuel needed to operate water wells and sewage networks, along with a severe shortage of maintenance materials and water and sewage pipes, in addition to the accumulation of thousands of tons of solid waste, which has led to the spread of diseases and epidemics.”

The municipalities of the governorate called on the international community and humanitarian organizations to intervene urgently and immediately, and to exert pressure to stop the violations and allow the entry of basic needs, in order to save what remains of life in the Gaza Strip.
