The Ministry of Health in the Gaza Strip stated in a press release on Thursday that the situation of amputees in the Gaza Strip has become “shocking.”
In a press statement issued on the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, the Ministry indicated that 6,000 amputation cases require urgent, long-term rehabilitation programs.
It emphasized that 25% of all amputation cases are children, who face permanent disabilities at a young age.
The Ministry highlighted the profound human suffering endured by thousands of wounded individuals and their families, underscoring the urgent need for rehabilitation services and psychosocial support.
The Ministry called upon relevant international organizations to direct their urgent attention to amputees in Gaza and to enhance opportunities for specialized care and rehabilitation.
The United Nations reports that nearly 42,000 people in Gaza have suffered life-altering injuries due to the war, and according to the World Health Organization (WHO), one in four of those injured is a child.
Since October 7, 2023, the occupying power – with American and European support – has committed genocide in the Gaza Strip, including killing, starvation, destruction, displacement, and arrest, ignoring international appeals and orders from the International Court of Justice to stop it.
