Palestinian Minister of Social Development, Samah Hamad, confirmed that 85 percent of the Gaza Strip’s population now requires urgent humanitarian aid after nearly 30 months of devastating war on the territory.
In a press statement in Ramallah, Hamad explained that approximately 85 percent of Gaza’s more than two million residents need immediate interventions in the education, health, and food sectors. She noted that the number of families in need has risen from 86,000 before the war to around 320,000 currently, representing the majority of families in the Strip.
She added that the humanitarian situation is becoming increasingly complex due to the continued restrictions on the entry of basic supplies, despite the ceasefire agreement having been in place four months ago. She described the situation in Gaza as “very dire.”
For its part, the Government Media Office in Gaza stated that 31,178 aid trucks have entered the Strip since the ceasefire agreement came into effect on October 10, out of a total of 72,000 trucks agreed upon, representing a 43 percent compliance rate.
According to the Palestinian health authorities, the death toll since October 7, 2023 has risen to 72,051 martyrs and 171,706 wounded, the majority of whom are children and women.
