The American Foreign Policy Research Institute said on Monday that “the US consumed approximately 5,197 munitions of 35 different types during the first 96 hours of the war on Iran.” The estimated replacement cost ranges between 10-16 billion dollars, raising the cost of various American losses to an estimated 20 billion dollars since the start of the war.

The institute indicated that this represents a significant industrial burden, given the difficulty of replacing some of these munitions within days or even weeks and months.

These estimates do not include combat losses in military assets or damage to bases and advanced air defense infrastructure.

According to the data, the Iranian missile strikes and drone attacks led, until March 10, 2026, to the loss of a number of vital sensor assets, including the AN/FPS-132 early warning radar in Qatar.

In addition to several AN/TPY-2 THAAD radars in Jordan, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE, and the AN/TPS-59 tactical radar in Bahrain.

The “friendly fire” incident, in which a Kuwaiti F/A-18 aircraft shot down three American F-15E Strike Eagle aircraft, along with Iran downing 11 MQ-9 Reaper drones, added additional burdens to the total cost.

Calculating the cost of munitions, the loss of sensors, and the attrition of aircraft, the total bill is estimated at about 20 billion dollars, without including the cost of munitions after the fourth day or other operational expenses such as aircraft fuel, overseas operational costs, and logistical support.

In this context, the administration of US President Donald Trump has consumed years’ worth of vital munitions stockpiles since the start of the war with Iran, according to 3 sources familiar with the matter who spoke to the British newspaper the “Financial Times.”

The sources said the rapid shortage of weapons included advanced long-range “Tomahawk” missiles.
