Escalating tensions in Bab Al-Mandeb following an Emirati-Israeli landing attempt
Tensions loomed over Bab Al-Mandeb, the second most important shipping lane in the Middle East, on Thursday, following the revelation of a landing attempt on its most important governing island.
Exclusive – Al-Khabar Al-Yemeni:
Saudi media reported that a military landing aircraft attempted to land on Mayon Island, indicating that factions affiliated with it confronted it.
The sources didn’t clarify the identity of the aircraft, but speculations suggest that the operation was Emirati-Israeli.
The newspaper “Al-Sharq Al-Awsat” revealed Saudi concern over the landing attempt in Bab Al-Mandeb, which is considered one of its most important corridors for oil exports and supply chains.
The landing attempt in Bab Al-Mandeb, which is under the control of Yemeni factions loyal to Saudi Arabia, is a notable development in the context of the regional crisis, coming days after Yemen announced its decision to enter the war amid fears of it closing Bab Al-Mandeb.
The attempt may increase the complexities of the global energy crisis, particularly given the trend towards seizing control of its most important corridors by the parties to the American-Israeli war.
It is worth noting that the UAE had built significant military infrastructure on the island before Saudi Arabia’s decision to expel it from Yemen.
