Amputees in Gaza live in harsh conditions

Amid Israel’s ongoing and devastating war on Gaza, the humanitarian consequences continue to worsen. The war has led to a dramatic increase in the number of amputees, exacerbating the challenges facing the already strained medical sector.

These amputees are living in dire conditions, suffering from a severe shortage of materials for manufacturing prosthetic limbs and a lack of essential wound care supplies, which threatens thousands more with amputation.

The Israeli state has destroyed Gaza’s healthcare system, reducing it to less than 30% of its capacity after destroying more than 70% of its hospitals and medical facilities. This widespread collapse has crippled surgical capabilities and accelerated the rate of amputations. The World Health Organization confirms that between 5,000 and 6,000 Palestinians in Gaza lost limbs during the first two years of Israel’s ongoing war of annihilation. This number continues to rise under the relentless bombardment, the blockade, and the ongoing destruction of healthcare facilities.
