The Iranian Army announced today that it carried out naval operations in the Sea of Oman, stating that they targeted two American destroyers after they “crossed the borders,” affirming that the naval vessels have left the area heading towards the Indian Ocean.
Follow-ups – Al-Khabar Al-Yemeni:
The Iranian Army stated that its forces launched “Qadir” warning missiles along with “Shahed Dana” attack drones towards the American destroyers “DDG-103” and “DDG-87,” indicating that the operation led to their departure from the Sea of Oman.
It added that the military move was not limited to the two American destroyers, but also included the departure of the amphibious assault ship “Tripoli” from the area, noting that the naval vessels were part of the “W. Bush” aircraft carrier group.
The Iranian Army affirmed that its naval forces will, when necessary, resort to using longer-range missiles.
In the context, the Iranian TV correspondent reported that satellite images showed the dispersal of the American fleet, adding that it had tried 48 hours earlier to enter the Gulf with disabled navigation systems, but faced opposition from the Iranian navy and was forced to retreat, according to the Iranian narrative.
The correspondent indicated that the Revolutionary Guard Navy has sent messages to transiting ships, stating that ships carrying essential cargo for their countries, such as fuel and foodstuffs, are required to inform the Iranian navy to secure protection and develop an operational plan for their transit through the Strait of Hormuz.
The Iranian Army’s Naval Force had earlier announced targeting the command and control center responsible for what it described as American hostile actions against Iranian commercial ships in the Sea of Oman, located on board an American destroyer that it said was intending to approach Iranian waters.
On May 21, Iran announced the establishment of a “maritime control zone” in the Strait of Hormuz, defining its geographical scope between the Iranian and Emirati coasts on both sides of the strait.
