Gaza: Jabalia Municipality warns of the deterioration of water services

The Jabalia Municipality in northern Gaza warned of a deterioration in water and sanitation services due to a severe shortage of fuel and oil needed to operate generators.
In a statement issued Sunday, the municipality said that the irregular operation of generators has caused significant disruptions to the functioning of sewage facilities and water networks, amid a continuing critical fuel shortage for these vital facilities, according to the Palestinian news agency Sanad.
The municipality explained that the decline in fuel supplies and the failure to receive adequate quantities from donors have forced its staff to reduce the operating hours of water wells and sewage pumps, negatively impacting the level of services provided to residents.
It added that the Al-Safatawi basin is nearing overflow point after the water level rose to five meters from its original depth of seven meters, warning of serious environmental and health consequences that could result from the continuation of the crisis.
The municipality stressed that the ongoing crisis threatens to worsen the humanitarian situation, with an increased risk of disease outbreaks and the disruption of potable water supplies. It called on partner organizations, both local, regional, and international, to intensify their efforts to provide the necessary operational resources and prevent the collapse of essential services.
