An Israeli association is demanding the release of 14 doctors from Gaza

Physicians for Human Rights-Israel (PHR-Israel) has called on an Israeli court to allow an independent doctor to examine Dr. Hussam Abu Safieh, asserting that his medical file documents an injury to his left eye and complaints of head and chest injuries.

PHR-Israel also demanded the release of 14 Palestinian doctors from Gaza, including Dr. Hussam Abu Safieh.

Last July, a UN Commission of Inquiry expressed concern over reports of violations against the prominent Palestinian doctor, who was arrested by the Israeli military in the Gaza Strip in December 2014 and remains detained in Israel, and urged his release.

The Independent International Commission of Inquiry on the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem, called for the immediate release of Hussam Abu Safieh, director of Kamal Adwan Hospital in the Gaza Strip.

Human rights organizations and Abu Safieh’s lawyer have stated that his life is in grave danger. PHR-Israel, an Israeli human rights organization, maintains that hue remains detained without charge.
