Gaza Municipality: Fuel shortage exacerbates the waste crisis in Gaza

The Gaza Municipality warned of a worsening solid waste collection crisis in the city, due to a severe fuel shortage needed to operate vehicles. This has reduced services to approximately 50% of their normal capacity, coinciding with the onset of winter and the increasing frequency of storms.
In a press release issued today, the municipality explained that the accumulation of waste, coupled with blocked drainage networks and the mixing of rainwater with sewage, is exacerbating health and environmental risks, particularly in low-lying areas and around refugee camps. The municipality warned of serious repercussions if this situation persists.
The municipality called for urgent intervention to provide fuel, essential equipment, and support for municipal services to avert an imminent humanitarian and environmental catastrophe.
