Associated Press: Damage to the Saudi East-West pipeline keeps it out of service for weeks

The Associated Press reported today, Monday, that the damage sustained by the Saudi East-West pipeline will keep it out of service for several weeks.

The agency quoted regional officials as saying that “repair work is not limited to parts of the pipeline but also includes a main pumping facility damaged by the attack, increasing the scope of work required to restart the system.”

The sources estimated that restoring the pipeline to operation could take between 3 and 5 weeks, meaning restrictions on Saudi Arabia’s ability to transport oil through this route will continue in the coming period, until repair work is completed and the damaged facilities are restarted.

This development places one of the Kingdom’s main oil transport routes before a long period of disruption.
