The repercussions of the war exacerbate the crises of the new school year in Gaza

Palestinian experts and analysts have warned of the serious repercussions of the Israeli war on the education system in Gaza, given the widespread destruction of schools, universities, and infrastructure. They emphasized that depriving children and youth of their right to education threatens the future of an entire generation and exacerbates the humanitarian and social crises in the Gaza Strip. Dr. Ayman al-Raqab, a professor of political science at Al-Quds University, confirmed that the academic year in Gaza began under abnormal humanitarian conditions. He noted that classes were postponed until mid-September for the first time, after having previously started at the end of August, due to the destruction inflicted on schools over the past three years.

Al-Raqab explained in a statement that the education sector has been completely devastated, with universities and schools ceasing operations, further compounding the already difficult conditions faced by the Palestinian people. He called on international organizations, such as UNICEF and UNESCO, to take clear and decisive action to salvage what remains in this sector.

He pointed out that keeping the younger generation ignorant in the Palestinian territories represents “extreme danger” and establishes a more difficult reality, stressing the need to return these generations to school desks, and to work on developing and preserving them completely.
