UNRWA: One in 10 children in Gaza suffers from malnutrition

The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) confirmed that one in 10 children examined in clinics operated by UNRWA in Gaza suffers from malnutrition.

Juliet Touma, UNRWA Director of Communications, told reporters in Geneva via video link from Amman, Jordan, “Our health teams confirm the high rates of malnutrition in Gaza, especially since the tightening of the blockade more than four months ago.”

It is noteworthy that the Israeli army called on residents of Gaza City and Jabalia in the Gaza Strip on Tuesday to immediately evacuate south toward the Mawasi area.

Medical sources in the Gaza Strip reported last Saturday that the number of children who have died from malnutrition so far has reached 67, noting that more than 650 children under the age of five are at real and immediate risk of severe malnutrition in the coming weeks, out of a population of 1.1 million children in the Strip.

The tight blockade imposed by the occupation on Gaza has entered its 133rd consecutive day, since the Israeli occupation forces closed all crossings in early March, preventing the entry of food, medicine, and fuel, in one of the most severe collective siege crimes of modern times.
