Amputation or death is the last option for doctors in Gaza

“We have no choice but to amputate the limbs of patients and the injured.” With these harsh words, Dr. Munir al-Barash, Director of the Ministry of Health in Gaza, summed up the extent of the medical catastrophe facing the Strip after the occupation prevented the entry of antibiotics and essential medicines, leaving thousands of patients facing an unknown fate.

Al-Barash said that the wounded in Gaza are not only killed by the occupation’s bullets, but are also ravaged by antibiotic-resistant microbes. Doctors have no choice but to amputate limbs to save the lives of the wounded and injured.

The Director of the Ministry of Health in Gaza explained via the “X” platform that the emergence of these microbes means the health crisis has reached a point of “no return,” where doctors are forced to choose the harshest of two options: either amputation or death.

Al-Barash bitterly asked, “Has medicine become amputation?” He pointed out that doctors in Gaza face painful scenes every day to save a child, a young man, or an injured person, with no choice but to amputate a leg or hand. The occupation not only continues its bombardment but also deprives patients of essential medicines, rendering their bodies unresponsive to treatment.

He added that the past few hours have witnessed the most intense bombardment targeting the necessities of life in Gaza, including homes, hospitals, schools, and even tents. The occupation’s missiles have killed children and women and deprived residents of water, medicine, and food, presenting the world with the full-blown nature of a medical genocide.
