Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Monitor: Israel is committing genocide in Gaza

Mirna Ammar, a researcher at the Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Monitor’s regional office, said that the findings of the International Commission of Inquiry are unprecedented in the two years of ongoing aggression on the Gaza Strip.
She added that the commission’s findings are based on clear legal standards that meet the conditions for the crime of genocide under Article 2 of the Genocide Convention.
She pointed out that Israel committed four of the five acts that define this crime, making these findings a legal basis upon which the International Criminal Court can hold Israeli officials and the state as an entity accountable.
She stated that the Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Monitor is closely monitoring events on the ground through field researchers inside Gaza, who are eyewitnesses who document daily crimes and violations against civilians, including shelling, forced displacement, and the ongoing blockade. She spoke of the seriousness of the Israeli army’s use of remotely operated explosive devices within residential neighborhoods, which constitutes a systematic practice aimed at causing widespread destruction to infrastructure and threatening the lives of civilians.
The researcher noted that the observatory continues to prepare detailed reports and submit them to relevant international bodies, emphasizing that investigations, photographs, and official statements by Israeli officials constitute compelling evidence of the intent to commit genocide.
