The Civil Defense in the Gaza Strip recovered the remains of 94 Palestinians on Saturday who had been buried haphazardly in a street in Gaza City during the Israeli offensive. The bodies will be transferred to official cemeteries.
During the two years of the Israeli offensive, thousands of Palestinians were forced to bury their loved ones in makeshift graves, mass graves, and in schoolyards, hospitals, and streets, due to the impossibility of accessing official cemeteries under heavy Israeli bombardment.
In a statement, the Civil Defense said its teams, in cooperation with local residents, “transferred the remains of 94 martyrs who had been buried during the war in a makeshift grave on Al-Sahaba Street in the center of Gaza City.”
He explained that the bodies were handed over to the forensic medicine department at Al-Shifa Medical Complex to take the necessary measures, in preparation for their burial in the Martyrs’ Cemetery in Deir al-Balah city in the central Gaza Strip.
