UNRWA: Gaza is the most dangerous place for journalists in the world

Philippe Lazzarini, Commissioner-General of UNRWA, confirmed that “more than 230 journalists have been killed in the Gaza Strip,” noting that “the Strip has become the most dangerous place in the world for journalists and humanitarian workers.”

Lazzarini explained that “preventing international journalists from entering Gaza contributes to the spread of disinformation campaigns and extremist narratives, and undermines efforts to convey the reality of the humanitarian situation on the ground.” He stressed “the importance of ensuring freedom of media access and protecting journalists in accordance with international humanitarian law.” Lazzarini added that “the continued targeting of journalists and humanitarian workers constitutes a serious violation of international law,” calling for providing them with the necessary protection and enabling media outlets to carry out their work without restrictions.
