eighty five students killed in Israeli airstrikes on a school in southern Iran

An Israeli airstrike that hit a girls’ primary school in southern Iran on Saturday killed 85 students, according to a new toll announced by the judiciary.

The judiciary’s Mizan Online website quoted the regional prosecutor’s office as saying, “The number of martyrs at the girls’ school in Minab has risen to 85.”

Earlier, Iranian state television reported that 57 students were killed and 60 others wounded in a “direct attack” on the school, in addition to strikes targeting other locations in Tehran and Qazvin.

The spokesman for the Iranian Ministry of Education, Ali Farhadi, had previously stated that the death toll from the attack on the Minab girls’ school was 53, in an initial count before the new figures were released.

For his part, the governor of Minab, in Hormozgan province, Mohammad Radmehr, said that the number of victims “is likely to rise,” explaining that the students were at the “Good Tree” school when it was directly attacked. Radmehr added that rescue and relief operations are still underway inside the school, noting that “the situation in the city is under control, and calm prevails in the rest of its neighborhoods,” despite the attack.
