Sana’a Shura Council: Yemen Has the Right to Respond to the Saudi Bombing of Sana’a Airport

The Yemeni Shura Council in Sana’a affirmed on Monday Yemen’s right to respond to the recent Saudi bombing that targeted the runway of Sana’a International Airport, warning Saudi Arabia against pushing the situation towards a new phase of escalation after years of war and siege.

Special Follow-ups – Al-Khabar Al-Yemeni:

The Shura Council described in a statement the targeting of the airport as a war crime and a violation of international laws that protect civilian facilities and the movement of official delegations, considering that Riyadh is pushing the situation towards a new phase of escalation.

The statement affirmed that the bombing effectively ended the de-escalation phase, holding Saudi Arabia responsible for its repercussions, and announcing its full support for the options that the Yemeni leadership and armed forces may take. It also called on the United Nations and the Security Council to condemn the attack and prosecute those responsible for it.

Saudi Arabia had launched a series of aggressive raids on Sana’a Airport coinciding with the return of a Yemeni delegation from Iran, a step considered by Sana’a as a declaration of war according to a Foreign Ministry statement.
