Overcrowding of displaced people and a lack of aid: a crisis in Beirut’s shelters

Displacement centers in Beirut are facing a severe overcrowding crisis and a critical shortage of capacity. Hundreds of schools and government buildings have been converted into emergency shelters amidst a severe lack of basic services and humanitarian aid.

Displaced people in Beirut’s shelters are suffering from harsh conditions, including a lack of healthcare, a lack of clean drinking water, dwindling food supplies, and a scarcity of basic aid, all while official neglect and pleas for help grow louder.

On the other hand, the families of the displaced are playing a vital role in assisting and running the shelters. Many volunteer to serve their families, organize daily activities for children, and provide for basic needs within the centers.
