An American Newspaper Reveals the Effects of the Yemeni Operations on Navigation in Saudi Airspace
Follow-ups — Al-Khabar Al-Yemeni:
The Yemeni operations and the increasing warnings regarding the safety of Saudi airspace pushed international airlines to recalculate and change the routes of a number of their flights, in a development that reflects the repercussions of the escalation on air navigation movement in the region.
Media outlets, including the American “Wall Street Journal” network, reported that the international “Ops Group” specialized in aviation security announced that Saudi airspace is unsafe at all altitudes, amid new warnings that pushed international airlines to reduce their flights through the Kingdom’s airspace and search for alternative routes.
According to what the newspaper reported, the Yemeni operations that targeted the Saudi airports changed the calculations of airlines that were relying on Saudi airspace as a relatively safe route, which pushed a number of them to redirect their flights away from the Kingdom’s airspace, toward Central Asia and other areas, including the airspace near the Syrian capital, Damascus.
The newspaper noted that British Airways began diverting more of its flights between the Indian city of Mumbai and London via Central Asia, to avoid passing through Saudi airspace, after it had been relying on it even with the continuation of the repeated Iranian strikes.
Indian Airlines also changed the routes of its flights heading to Europe, diverting them from central Saudi Arabia to routes passing near the northern border of the Kingdom and the vicinity of Damascus.
