Abyan: Armed Conflicts between Al-Qaeda, UAE-Backed Forces Renewed
Armed confrontations renewed on Tuesday, between Al-Qaeda and UAE-backed militias in eastern regions of Abyan province, southern Yemen, Yemen News Portal reported based on testimonies of tribal sources.
Tribal sources said that violent clashes broke out between the Security Belt militias affiliated with the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC) and al-Qaeda elements, on the outskirts of al-Mahfad district.
The sources pointed out that the clashes left wounded from both sides, noting that the confrontations are still continuing until the moment, in south of Al-Mahfad, along the areas adjacent to the Ahwar district.
For days, violent clashes have been taking place between the two sides in Al-Mahfad district, coinciding with a new spread of terrorist organization groups.
The confrontations come in the context of a new escalation in in the province, as mutual mobilizations between Emirati factions on the one hand, and al-Qaeda and Islah on the other.
