Official Documents Confirm Involvement of STC’s President in Oil Field Sales Deals
Official documents revealed, on Sunday, that the head of the Southern Transitional Council, which is loyal to UAE, was involved in deals to sell oil fields in eastern Yemen.
the documents were circulated by oil experts, and it shows an agreement between the head of the Transitional Council, Aidaroos Al-Zubaidi, and Aden government, which is supported by the coalition, to pass a deal to sell the share of the American company, Exxon, in favor of PetroMasila Company, which is acquired by Hamid al-Ahmar, a leader in Islah Party, in Sector No. 5. Exxon acquires 15% of the sector’s share in Shabwah.
The agreement came after the Yemeni Company for Oil and Mineral Investments warned of the consequences of passing the deal.
One of the documents, which is a letter addressed by the Minister of Oil in Aden government Saeed Al-Shammasi, to the Director General of the Yemeni Company for Oil Investments, included promises to supply the sector’s revenues to the Central Bank in Aden.
It also justifies passing it to resume oil exports and its halted production due to the government not signing the deal.
Sector five is one of several oil sectors that were sold through suspicious deals, some of them to foreign companies and others to subcontracting companies at low prices, but what is new is Al-Zubaidi’s role in these deals, in light of his council’s claim that he is seeking to restore the state in the south.
