Sana’a Rejects Saudi Demands for Buffer Zone on the Border
Sana’a rejected on Monday, Riyadh’s demands for guarantees in exchange for handing over Ansaarallah, the administration of Yemen.
Abdulmalik Al-Ajri, a member of the negotiating delegation, said in a tweet on his official page on social media, that the establishment of a fully sovereign Yemeni state is the greatest guarantee for the security of neighboring countries, considering the survival of the state that lacks sovereignty as the greatest imaginable threat.
Al-Ajri called for supporting this approach to protect the national security of neighboring countries. Considering any other direction as meaningless as a justification for continuing the same policy that brought Yemen to total ruin.
Al-Ajri’s statements come a day after the Lebanese newspaper Al-Akhbar published a report in which it confirmed that bin Salman had presented an offer to Sana’a that included demands for guarantees in exchange for withdrawal from Yemen and the abandonment of forces loyal to his country in southern and eastern Yemen.
It was not clear the nature of the guarantees required by Saudi Arabia, but its officials had put forward the idea of establishing a buffer zone on the border with a depth of 30 km in Yemeni territory.
This is what Sana’a rejects as a new deduction from the Yemeni border in addition to the joint area, which Saudi Arabia had extracted from Yemen in the past, and it was supposed to be a buffer zone on the border.
The Yemeni Islah Party, the most prominent of the pro-coalition forces, had revealed that new files had entered the negotiating table between Sana’a and Riyadh.
The party’s military expert, Ali al-Dahab, indicated that negotiations are currently taking place on lifting the restrictions imposed on the ports of Hodeida and Sana’a airport, in addition to paying salaries and war compensation.
There are also discussions about the complete abandonment of support for Aden government and the presidential authority in southern Yemen.
Since the return of the delegation from Sana’a, the Omani capital has witnessed intense movements as part of attempts to stop the Saudi war on Yemen, which has been going on for eight years.
