Seizure of a British ship in the Red Sea
The government of Aden admitted on Saturday the seizure of a British ship that had been targeted earlier in the Bab Al-Mandeb Strait.
Exclusive – Al-Khabar Al-Yemeni:
Saba News Agency, affiliated with the government of Ahmed Awad bin Mubarak, published a governmental statement stating that the latter issued a decision to form an “emergency” committee for the ship “Ruby Mar,” confirming that the ship is approaching the coast of Hanish Island in the Red Sea, which is under the control of pro-coalition factions.
Earlier, the US Central Command published photos of the ship, claiming that its sinking had caused a significant leakage of toxic substances.
The British ship was targeted by Yemeni forces on February 18 while attempting to sail towards Israeli ports, and it suffered severe damage, including engine failure, which prompted the company to evacuate the crew and keep the ship in the Red Sea.
According to the US narrative, the ship was carrying around 41,000 tons of fertilizer.
The abandonment of the ship by Britain without rescue efforts indicates the involvement of international parties in causing an environmental catastrophe as part of a collective punishment strategy against Yemenis.
