Health and environmental risks due to waste accumulation

Waste accumulated in large quantities in Gaza City poses health and environmental risks, causing the spread of epidemics and intestinal and skin diseases, in addition to the spread of unpleasant odors, rodents and insects.
The Gaza municipality confirmed that the situation is worsening with huge amounts of waste, amounting to more than 150 tons per day, piling up in the streets and makeshift dumps. After the Israeli occupation prevented municipal crews from reaching the main landfill east of the city, this situation is exacerbated by the lack of fuel needed to collect and transport waste, and the occupation destroyed most of the municipal equipment.
This has exacerbated the crisis in the provision of basic services such as waste collection and water supply.
The Gaza Municipality called on international bodies and humanitarian organizations to intervene quickly to provide fuel and heavy equipment to recollect waste and electricity supplies.
