The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) reported that a new evacuation order issued by the Israeli army on Friday morning reduced the area of the “humanitarian zone” designated by Israel to 11 percent of the area of Gaza.
Six blocks were affected by the new eviction order in Deir al-Balah and Khan Younis, including two blocks within the humanitarian zone designated by Israel in Al-Mawasi, west of Khan Yunis.
More than 120 displacement sites, hosting an estimated 170,000 people, have been affected, according to OCHA’s office.
OCHA noted that many of the IDPs involved in Friday’s evacuation orders had recently arrived in the area, having followed previous evacuation orders.
The UN office said it had dispatched a small team on the ground and had already seen thousands of people on the move, many of them children and women. They were heading towards Deir al-Balah with no clear destination. “They were once again forced to leave, in a hurry, as they had nowhere to go in the midst of death and destruction.”
