Intensive American attempts to persuade Europeans to stay in the Red Sea

The US threw all its cards on Thursday in an attempt to persuade its Western allies to stay in the Red Sea, coinciding with the pulling of Western battleships from the region.

The US Central Command published a new image of the aircraft carrier “Roosevelt,” claiming that it was taken during the American battleship’s sailing in its operational area extending from the Red Sea to the Indian Ocean.

The publication of the battleship’s photos also coincided with the publication of other images of American fighter jets being refueled in the same region.

Coinciding with the launch of US Secretary of State Antony Blinken’s tour, a concerted effort was underway on the European front to convince Western nations to maintain their mission in the Red Sea.

Blinken contacted his Italian counterpart, whose country leads the European mission known as “Aspides.”

According to a US State Department statement, the discussion centered on developments in the Red Sea, specifically the burning of the oil tanker “SOUNION.”

These movements come at a time when Western countries participating in the military mission have begun to withdraw their last battleships from the region following an agreement with Yemen allowing the pulling of an oil tanker that was targeted at the end of last weekend, with military attempts to rescue it failing.

American movements reflect attempts to persuade Western allies to stay.

The display of the “Roosevelt” is, according to experts, an attempt to reassure allies of America’s military presence in the region.

It is worth noting that Western countries were displeased with the US’ decision to withdraw its battleships, notably removing “Eisenhower” from the Red Sea and leaving Western battleships prey to Yemeni attacks.
