The Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), Philippe Lazzarini said at a press conference in Berlin on Wednesday that a “silent war” has been raging in the occupied West Bank since October 7, leaving more than 700 people homeless.
He added that the agency’s operations in the Gaza Strip are approaching the point of collapse due to increasingly complex conditions.
He continued: “We are very close to the point of possible collapse. When will it be? I don’t know. But we are very close to it.” He stressed that with the approach of winter, the people of Gaza are likely to face famine and severe malnutrition.
In turn, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) said that nearly 733 million people in the world suffered from hunger in 2023, and that the food crisis in the Gaza Strip is the worst in the organization’s history.
