Gaza: International warnings of severe humanitarian consequences as a result of the Israeli Knesset’s ban on UNRWA’s activities
Follow-ups – Al-Khabar Al-Yemeni:
The UN rapporteur on human rights in the occupied Palestinian territories reported that the continued Israeli assault on UNRWA is because it provides assistance to Palestinians.
The UN rapporteur clarified that “UNRWA is not a guarantor of the right of return, and international law and UN resolutions guarantee the rights of Palestinian refugees,” adding that “Israel must respect the measures approved by the International Court of Justice.”
The director of the WHO mentioned that Kamal Adwan Hospital in northern Gaza is receiving a continuous influx of casualties due to Israeli hostile actions, adding that “the Hospital suffered damage during the recent Israeli blockade, and ambulances were destroyed.”
He pointed out that the only way to protect Gaza’s healthcare system from collapse is an immediate and unconditional ceasefire.
It is worth noting that the UN Security Council warned in a session that dismantling UNRWA’s operations will have severe humanitarian consequences for millions of Palestinian refugees, adding, “We are concerned about the legislation adopted by the Israeli Knesset and demand for enabling UNRWA to carry out its tasks.”
He pointed out that “there is no organization that can replace UNRWA in serving Palestinians, because it is the foundation of the humanitarian response in the Gaza Strip.”
