Escalating international concerns about the American classification of Ansar Allah

International reactions continue to follow the US’ announcement of the entry into force of the decision to designate the Ansar Allah movement as a terrorist organization, amid warnings of serious repercussions on maritime security in the region.

Follow ups – Al-Khabar Al-Yemeni:

Global shipping companies have expressed growing concern about the possibility of an escalation of unrest in the maritime corridors in the Gulf as a result of this decision.

Reuters quoted the chief security officer of the BMCO shipping association as predicting that this designation will exacerbate the security situation, indicating the possibility of a return of Yemeni operations in the Red Sea.

The administration of former US President Donald Trump had previously announced the implementation of the decision, which has been in effect since the beginning of the year.

In a notable development, the Yemeni forces announced on Tuesday evening the downing of an American MQ-9 drone off the western coast of Yemen, just hours after the American decision.

For more than a year of continuous support for the Gaza Strip, the Yemeni forces have succeeded in forcing the American fleets to withdraw from the region after direct confrontations that resulted in the injury of a number of American warships.

With the new Israeli escalation against Gaza, the shipping lanes are expected to witness new confrontations, especially since Washington is using this decision as a pressure tool on Sana’a to stop its naval operations.
