South Africa: Israel uses starvation as a weapon in its war on Gaza

South Africa said on Wednesday that “Israel is using starvation as a weapon of war“ in Gaza by blocking humanitarian access to the territory since Sunday.
“By preventing food from entering Gaza, Israel continues to use starvation as a weapon of war as part of the ongoing campaign that the International Court of Justice has ruled to be a possible genocide against the Palestinian people,” the Foreign Ministry said in a statement, referring to the case South Africa filed against Israel before the court.
“The people of Gaza face untold suffering and urgently need food, shelter and medical supplies,” she said, adding that “South Africa calls on the international community to hold Israel accountable.”
Some humanitarian aid entered the Gaza Strip after a ceasefire was reached on January 19, but Israel announced Sunday that it would freeze aid deliveries until Hamas accepted its terms for extending the truce.
